This weekend David and I drove a total of 20 hours for a whirlwind 2 days with his family. David's brother is leaving on his mission to Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday, so we of course had to be there for the tail end of the family camping trip at the cabin and for his farewell.
We had the dogs, Penny and Toby, sleeping in their crates in the "porch" section of our tent. Probably more from the cold than anything, they both woke up and started to whine pretty early that morning, even though we hadn't gotten to the cabin until pretty late the night before. We finally got up to let them out, and neither I nor the dogs had noticed the herd of cows just beyond the fence that surrounds the cabin. I didn't notice until David pointed it out to me, telling me to watch the dogs closely so that they wouldn't run out there. Of course, at that very moment, Penny decided that running towards the fence, and thus towards the cows, would be the best decision she could make. Toby ran after her, completely unaware of what was going on. We both frantically ran after her, calling for her to come back to us. This, of course, just drove her towards the cows that much faster. Dave got the gate open as fast as he could so that we could hopefully save Penny from being trampled. She ran very confidently towards the herd, and immediately half of the cows started to run to the right. She then ran towards the rest of the group, and they started to run to the left. It was actually pretty funny to see such a small dog moving these big cows around. It wasn't until she found a pile of cow poo, though, that she stopped long enough for me to grab her and take her back to the tent. The dogs then got to be on leash until the cows left :)

A not very happy David after catching Penny |

The very bad cow-herding dog |
The rest of our time at the cabin was spent enjoying good food, good company and fun games. David and Ian were in charge of the breakfast, and they cooked up some delicious eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. Sharon and I were in charge of some games for the kids, so we had them do a scavenger hunt. But the best part really is just sitting around together and catching up. I sure married into a good family :)

I adore Calvin's face in this picture! Haha! |
In the pictures above, David is holding Toby on his lap because we kept losing him. I think he was overwhelmed by the number of kids as well as by the heat, so kept crawling under different cars and just laying there. Even when he was called or we brought out treats, he would just hang out under the car watching us.

This is an absolutely adorable picture of Callie,
but the background shows how David and I spent half of our time
up at the cabin, looking for Toby under the cars!! |
Last year we forgot to get a picture with our tent set up, so I was sure to get Rhyannon to take a picture for us.

Such a beautiful place to camp! |
On Sunday we had the privilege of hearing Calum's farewell talk. What a great missionary he is going to be. We are so proud of him and this decision he has made. We look forward to hearing all about the amazing experiences he has out in Fort Worth over the next two years! We also look forward to writing him at the end of this week / beginning of next week to let him know how awesome the new Superman movie is ;)
Sharon sent me a few pictures from Calum's farewell, so I thought I'd share them on here! I love this family and am so lucky to be a Webb! :)

Sharon was testing out the lighting, so of course David had to pose :) |

Such a great family!! |

Elder Webb with the parents :) |
God speed, Elder Webb! You will be missed and we will be praying for you.
Great post, Rachel! It sounds like your weekend with the Webbs was super fun with lots of family to be with. It also sounds like Penny and Toby had an exciting weekend, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat funny dogs! You have married into such a great family. I'm glad you got a picture with the tent this year. You'll need that in December!! haha.
